The Power of Words on Your Life

We have just come through a holiday which is focused on gratitude, on giving thanks. Have you discovered the power of words on your life? Gratitude and praise lift the spirit. And do you remember the effect of hurtful words when you were a child … or even recently? Did they crush your spirit?

In his book, Love as a Way of Life, Gary Chapman uses an effective metaphor for words as being either bullets or seeds. When we speak with condemnation, our words act as bullets, tearing down relationships. Yet when we use our words as seeds, spoken in a supportive manner with good will for our audience, we are building relationship in positive, affirming ways.

The Bible refers often to the power of words – “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit” (Prov 15:4), “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but hard words stir up anger” (Prov 15:1), are just a few of the admonitions found in its text.

We know how we feel when someone speaks harshly to us. And, interestingly, scientists have affirmed the power of words through the study of water.

Water and the Vibration of Emotion

Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist and water researcher, revealed how thoughts and vibrations affect the molecular structure of water. Using high speed photography of thousands of water crystals, Dr. Emoto has shown that these take different shapes related to thoughts and  vibrations in the environment.

The most beautiful crystals are those formed after water is exposed to words of “love and gratitude.” See the image above. Isn’t that fascinating? Water is influenced by love and gratitude!

We can understand the influence of words of love and gratitude having beneficial on our psyche, our emotions. Could there be an equal influence on our physical bodies? I believe so.

Your Body and the Vibration of Emotion

The human body is made of 70% water. When we overlay Dr. Emoto’s research with that fact, doesn’t it make sense that our thoughts and words have profound implications on our health and the well-being of our planet?

What if you speak loving words of gratitude to your body daily? To your loved ones? Even to strangers you meet on the street? Can you imagine the profound effect it would have on our health and wellbeing?

We speak of peace on earth at this time of the year. In a world where there is so much heaviness and fear and negativity, I am challenging all of us to use our words to create powerful shifts. Spread that love and gratitude, starting with yourself and then sharing with those in your sphere of influence and beyond, and let’s make this winter’s crystals a beautiful demonstration of healing.
